Black Nellie - 2011 foal

Nellie is a black filly out of Blue Angel and by Mr. Marcum (Mr. Marcum won the 2008 RMHA International Stallion Championship)  She has wonderful conformation - she's going to look like her sire when she's grown!  Homozygous for black - so will never throw a red foal.
VIDEOS!!!
The first video below is of Nellie's ground work so far (4/8/12). Here are the things you will see:
  • Light round penning. I ask her to change directions by turning into me (she turns wrong and gets corrected) then I ask her to come into me and follow me when I move.
  • Yield the hindquarters.  Also yield, turn & face me.
  • Backing up with the following methods:  tapping the air, waving the stick, wiggle the rope, marching (her first marching experience), backing off halter pressure and pressure to her chest.
  • Yield hindquarters by touching her hip.
  • Yielding the forequarters (asking her to step across her front foot).  This is her first day at this, second session in the video.
  • First day for very light lunging - basically I want her to move forward off the halter pressure, then yield & face me.
4/8/12 The video below shows her desensitizing exercises.  You will see:
  • Throwing the rope around her.
  • Stick & String on her & whipping the ground
  • Plastic bag on a string
  • Tarp (this is her first day meeting the tarp, second session)
  • Spray bottle (first day)
  • Picking up feet
  • Bucket therapy
2/25/13   I haven't played with Nellie all winter - today it was in the 50's so I thought I'd get out and see how she did.  You will see her send between me & the stall walls - she doesn't mind the tight space, in & out of the stalls, backing in & out of a stall, C-Pattern across the yard, walk the plank, go over the logs, go through a narrow space between the barrels and lunge around a small gully and the creek.
