Leasing A Horse
Leasing allows a horse-lover to experience the joy of riding and spending time with a horse without the expense and upkeep of ownership. Some who lease may not be ready to purchase a horse, or may not have a suitable place to keep a horse. Others may not have the time for full time ownership or just don't want the worries of farm work - there's always fences to mend, trips to the vet, ice to bust on those freezing cold winter days, etc. Often lessees are teens who desire a horse, but who's parents are not interested in owning. Leasing is a nice option to get to love horses without a large expense or responsibility.
We have a limited number of horses that we lease out, please check to see what is currently available. Full-time lease cost is $250 per month plus hoof care and part-time options can be worked out as well.
Our farm offers 135 acres of varied terrain: fields, forest, hills and creeks to ride on in a gorgeously scenic setting. And as we are bordered by the lovely Clark State Forest you can find miles and miles of horse trails nearby. For working the horses we have a round pen, riding arena and a small obstacle course. And there are plenty of people around to ride with too and we definitely encourage riding with friends for safety as well as fun!

Also, Split-Ridge Farm is considering a special lease to the right horse loving person. We are offering an on-farm "exchange" lease. In exchange for helping us work with our horses the lessee in turn gets riding privileges. Yep - you heard me right, that means no money, just a little exercising time and effort.
We will be very selective in our choice and must feel it is the right fit. Who is the right person for this special lease? Someone with enough love and experience with horses to be confident handling them. Someone who has several days each week to spend with horses. This person will be kind and patient as we will not tolerate any mistreatment of our wonderful Rockies. Having knowledge of the Downunder Horsemanship Method is a plus, but if you are not familiar with the Method you must have a willingness to learn as this is what we use with our horses. This is a huge bonus for someone interested in learning this method - you will have access to a wealth of knowledge without the cost of purchasing the series, and Rockies are so willing and smart they will have you feeling like an expert in no time!
