Welcome to our farm . . .
We are a small family run farm located in Southern Indiana offering Rocky Mountain horses for sale. We also offer horse boarding, and on occassion special events. For your breeding needs we are standing the beautiful grulla stallion, Tungsten. Use the "enter site" link above to find all we have going on!
We just happen to have the world's best breed of horse - the Rocky Mountain Horse! Originally from Kentucky - we found our way to Indiana in search of the perfect farm to raise our horses. We offer just a few horses each year for sale - we raise & train Rocky Mountain Horses for the joy this special breed brings us and to share them with others.
We love this breed so much that introducing others to this wonderful horse has become our goal. Every rider is looking for that perfect trail companion. And we believe the Rocky is just that!
If you've never owned a Rocky - you have been missing out! In my opinion no other horse comes close! And that statement is from someone who grew up with Quarter Horses, Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walkers and an Arabian. For years I considered myself a "Saddlebred person" - until I met my first Rocky and my whole world changed. I had never met a horse more responsive and willing to please, nor as distinctively lovely. Now I want to share this wonderful horse that I "discovered" with everyone!
Did you know that this breed, with less than 25,000 registered horses world wide, is on the "Threatened" and without action could be lost as a breed? This is a VERY special horse due to is wonderful people oriented personality, smooth gait and extreme versatility - it is known as "The One Horse For All Occasions". This horse was developed in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky to be extremely hardy, good natured and versatile - the Mountain folk used the same horse to plow their fields, pull their buggies and ride in the roughest mountain terrain but with the smoothest ground covering gait. Not just show & trail horses, they are used for working cattle, jumping, obstacles and endurance (yep, we got Rockies in the Tevis Cup!) If you know and love the Rocky Mountain Horse - please consider becoming a breeder, a shower, and someone who promotes and continues this amazing breed for future generations! We carefully choose bloodlines to ensure the best horses with quality in temperament, conformation and gait. We try to always be there at birth to imprint the foal and we begin their training nearly as soon as they hit the ground.
Having a great horse is more than just having a fine pedigree - you must have plenty of meaningful handling as well. Every time we interact with our horses - there is learning involved! Why just lead your horse from point A to point B when on the way there you can work on giving, yielding, backing and respect in the same amount of time? We are huge fans of Down Under Horsemanship and follow Clinton Anderson's method with our Rockies. We begin applying the method when they are just a few days old and continue it throughout their time with us. The result is horses who are respectful, attentive, well adjusted and well behaved. And being Rockies - they make it so easy!
Unlike large farms who sell dozens of horses annually, our policy is to only raise a few foals each year to ensure that we are able to give each one plenty of personal time and attention. We acquired most of our herd as young, untrained horses and we understand how much hard work it is to start from scratch - we add extra value to our horses by beginning their training early so they come to you already started on the ground or beyond. Whether they are sold as weanlings, yearlings or under saddle - it's our goal that they are well on their way with their training so they will be wonderful companions to you.
Please enjoy our site and check back often. If you'd like to visit our farm and meet our horses - just give us a call. We are located in southern Scottsburg about 30 minutes North of Louisville, KY. Our farm is nestled back into the beautiful Clark State Forest that includes miles of hiking and horse trails. We'd love to have you visit & show you our horses. Click HERE to enter our site.
Thank you,
Marcia, Mike & Trenton Coy
